William Shakespeare lived a very eventful life. It is thought that he was born on April 23rd, 1564. There is no real record of this, however, he was baptized on April 26th of that same year and there was a tradition during this time to baptize a newborn on their third day of life. There isn’t much evidence on what Shakespeare did between birth and the age of 18. During these lost years it is assumed that Shakespeare attended the King’s New School in Stratford. In November of 1582, William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway, a local farmer’s daughter. They then lived on to have 3 children, Susanna and twins Judith and Hamnet Shakespeare. Before he became a famous play artist, Shakespeare enjoyed writing sonnets. Shakespeare was kind of forced into writing plays at first, because the plague forced theatres to shut down to reduce the spread of disease. He first published a long poem known as, “Venus and Adonnis” in 1593. Obviously, he grew to like writing poetry because he went on to publish 2 narrative poems and 154 sonnets. After a struggling acting career, Shakespeare decided to start integrating the 2 things that he loved poetry and drama. The sonnets that he had written inspired the structure of his plays and the dialogue that went along with them. William Shakespeare went on to write 38 plays including the famous tragedies and romances known as Macbeth, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and The Winter’s Tale. Shakespeare died on April 23rd, 1616 at the age of 52. After he passed, most of his dramas were gathered and published as what is known as the ‘First Folio’. Although, his original manuscripts are lost today, his legacy and art are brought together and still performed to this day and are something he will always be remembered by.
